Call of Compassion NW

Call of Compassion NW--formerly Compassionate Seattle--exists to create a healthy and thriving compassion movement in Seattle and throughout the State of Washington. We convene community leaders and engage community members to address and reduce the impact of social and economic injustices. We activate relationships of respect and trust among residents within and among our neighborhoods.

Call of Compassion NW is part of a worldwide network inspired by the Charter for Compassion. Aware that our world is deeply troubled and polarized and committed to make the world a better place, we work to establish and sustain cultures of compassion locally and globally through diverse initiatives—education, cities, business, religious and spiritual communities, and the arts. We supply resources, information and communication platforms to help create and support compassionate communities, institutions, and networks of all types that are dedicated to becoming compassionate presences in the world.

Charter for Compassion International

The Charter for Compassion International supports a global movement that brings the Charter for Compassion to life. As a network of networks, it connects organizers and partners from around the world. The Charter for Compassion International provides educational resources, organizing tools, and avenues of communication for sharing lessons, stories, and inspiration. It serves as the umbrella for the Charter for Compassion, supporting conferences, events, collaborations, conversations, and initiatives to create and connect compassionate communities and institutions across the globe.

Compassionate Schools Initiative

The Compassionate Schools Initiative within Learning and Teaching Support provides training, guidance, referral, and technical assistance to schools wishing to adopt a Compassionate Schools Infrastructure. Compassionate Schools benefit all students who attend but focus on students chronically exposed to stress and trauma in their lives. These schools create compassionate classrooms and foster compassionate attitudes of their school staff. The goal is to keep students engaged and learning by creating and supporting a healthy climate and culture within the school where all students can learn. It is not a program; it is a process and as such is not “one size fits all.” Each school and community will develop their own unique compassionate “personality.”

Compassion Games International

Compassion Games International offers fun and creative ways to ignite and catalyze compassionate action in communities around the world. The Games amplify what is already working and inspires new ways to care for ourselves, each other, and the Earth. In the Compassion Games, competition becomes coopetition as we challenge one another to strive together to make our planet a better place to live.

Compassion Games International organizes an annual coopetition where teams from around the world challenge each other to catalyze compassionate action during the 11 Days of Global Unity (9/11 – 9/21) and supports coopetitions that take place throughout the year organized by communities, schools, organizations, and businesses. Individuals and Teams can train for The Games by performing acts of kindness and utilizing Personal Power-Ups any day of the year!

Youth Ambassadors

In October 2007, Seattle-area youth from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds were invited to participate as Youth Ambassadors to mark the arrival of the Dalai Lama in Seattle, Washington. During the event, students through Youth Ambassadors served as speakers and participated in activities, gaining experiences that changed their lives. It was transformative for the youth involved as ambassadors because they were able to form new relationships with their community and recognized their potential to contribute. The experience was transformative for the youth involved.  In their words, “They found their hearts and minds turned toward their community. They found that they are bright lights with limitless potential. They found they could make a difference.  They found family.” Currently the Youth Ambassadors program provides engaging learning opportunities for youth; these learning opportunities are focused on civics in order to develop compassion and cultivate social emotional skills. Dynamic mentors and guest speakers empower students to build confident voices as leaders in their local communities. Deepening their understanding of what it means to engage compassionately, students explored the meaning of compassion not as a passive concept, but as an action verb.
